Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty in Elle Magazine
She has certainly been centre stage in more ways than one as the wannabe Karen Cartwright on NBC Broadway drama series Smash.
And now Katharine McPhee is very much the centre of attention in the fashion stakes too, as she poses for a new photo shoot for Elle magazine in Joe Zee‘s A-Zee column.

Smash star Katharine McPhee took centre stage in a orange and black dress and black heels in the forthcoming issue of Elle magazine
The 27-year-old singer and actress cuts a stunning figure in an orange and black Bottega Veneta dress and Tom Ford sandals.
With her hair down, she is styled for a ‘first date’ look and stands alone under the spotlights in a theatre.
Another shot shows her looking a little more demure in a grey short sleeved silky Jason Wu dress and maroon coloured velvet sandals for a ‘job opening’ look, styled by creative director Joe Zee.
And Megan Hilty, who plays Katharine’s arch rival Ivy Lynn on the show, also got a slice of the action, posing in a ‘job opening’ style in a geometric jacket over a corset style Bottega Veneta dress.

“Smash” has found its Marilyn Monroe in Ivy Lynn (Megan Hilty), and Karen Cartwright (Katharine McPhee) is well on her way to taking the stage as part of her first Broadway ensemble. So, what’s next on “Smash”? Drama, guest stars and lots of songs.
On the docket: “Shake It Out,” a Florence and the Machine cover McPhee said she enjoyed doing, “Rose’s Turn,” “Our Day Will Come” and in episode five, “Let’s Be Bad,” an original song that Hilty described as “epic.”
“It can be kind of confusing because I’m Megan playing Ivy Lynn who is playing Marilyn who is playing Sugar in ‘Some Like It Hot’ and she’s wasted so she’s messing up the whole number,” Hilty told HuffPost TV from the set. “But she’s still kind of fantastic in some moments.”

“She’s always been a real huge influence in my life and you always told us to never sing her songs,” McPhee said to Idol judge Randy Jackson at the timer. “No one can sing it like her, but you sure can dream to be just a smidgen of what she was.”
